alt-J Delivers Third Single “Hard Drive Gold” Ahead Of Forthcoming Album [Listen/Watch]

Following their two previously released singles “U&ME” and “Get Better,” alt-J has unleashed the third single “Hard Drive Gold” from their forthcoming album, The Dream. The album from the British indie, art-rock band is out on February 11th, 2022, via Canvasback/Atlantic.

Spanning just over two and half minutes, “Hard Drive Gold” tells the story of a teenage boy made millionaire overnight, touching on today’s crazed ideology of making quick money through cryptocurrency. The track’s accompanying music video confronts a depiction of the apocalypse as everyone is instructed to shelter indoors. Instead, the protagonist shoots up her vaulting pole for one last jump as the lyrics “don’t be afraid to make money boy” rings out in rebellion. The video also features the alt-J’s guitarist and singer Joe Newman’s directorial debut. Watch the official music video below and listen to the new track on all streaming platforms here.

“”Hard Drive Gold” is a slightly tongue-in-cheek song written at what we thought was the height of the cryptocurrency gold rush,” the band said in a press statement. “It’s the story of the ultimate childhood fantasy, the schoolboy who becomes a millionaire overnight, and the different interactions he has with people in his life from teachers to neighbours. How ironically you interpret its message is entirely up to you…”

alt-J is slated to head out on their co-headlining North American tour with Portugal. The Man in February 2022 and will make a stop at Salt Lake City, UT’s UCCU Center on April 5th.
