alt-J Announces 2022 Tour With Portugal. The Man, Announces New Album, Releases New Single & Video [Listen/Watch]

alt-J has announced a co-headlining North American tour with Portugal. The Man. In addition to the tour announcement, the indie-alternative trio has announced the release of their fourth studio album, The Dream.

Set to begin in February 2022, the trio will set out to play 31 shows alongside the six-piece rock band, kicking off at Pittsburgh, PA’s Petersen Events Center on February 25th. The two co-headliners will make their mark at Salt Lake City, UT’s UCCU Center on April 5th towards the end of the tour before finishing off at Toronto, ON’s Coca-Cola Coliseum on April 17th. Sir Chloe will provide support for the first half of the tour while Cherry Glazerr will be supporting on the second half.

While the tour brews anticipation, alt-J has also announced their forthcoming album, The Dream, due out February 11th via Canvasback/Infectious Music. The Dream follows the trio’s first original full-length release since 2017’s RELAXER. Recorded at their studio in London, The Dream was a subsequent product as the trio navigated the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in a packaged 12-song collection of the group’s revived sense of experimentalism.

Keeping up with the momentum, the trio has shared a video for a new single “U&ME” off the forthcoming album. Written during various soundchecks around the world and the first track recorded on the album, “U&ME” illustrates a fresh and crisp sound for the trio, as the theme circulates around having fun in the summer sun and showcases the trio at a skatepark.

Frontman Joe Newman explains “U&ME” in a press release, “It gathered momentum on its own, it was best to just get out of its way. We were just there.” Keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton adds, “It’s about being at a festival with your best friends, having a good time, togetherness, and the feeling in life that nothing could be any better than it is right now.”
