Over 1,000 Musicians Perform “My Hero” To Honor Late Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins [Watch]
Over 1,000 musicians from 25 countries gathered at Paris’ Stade de France over the weekend for a Rockin’ 1000 performance that included covers of The Who, Rage Against The Machine, Pink Floyd, The White Stripes, Guns N’ Roses, and a tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
Initially launched as a plan in 2015 to lure Foo Fighters to the small town of Cesena, Italy, Rockin’ 1000 has evolved into a celebration of live rock music where hundreds of musicians from around the world congregate and perform together. Saturday’s performance marked the first Rockin’ 1000 performance in nearly three years due to the global pandemic.
Saturday’s performance drew a crowd of 50,000 people to watch the 21 iconic rock songs. While the performance saw impressive covers of some of music history’s most notable rock anthems, the rendition of Foo Fighters’ “My Hero” took the cake. Given the special connection between Rockin’ 1000 and Foo Fighters, the performance was a fitting tribute to the band’s recently passed Taylor Hawkins. The rendition of “My Hero” follows the Rockin’ 1000 cover of the band’s “Learn To Fly” released earlier this year, the song that the group originally recorded in 2015 to attract Foo Fighters to play in Cesena.
Watch the Rockin’ 1000 rendition of “My Hero” from Saturday’s performance below, as well as “Learn To Fly” from earlier this year.
