Arctic Monkeys: North American Tour 2023
There is only one thing that can nostalgically revive my inner teenager from the dust (besides a quick scroll through my old Tumblr account) and that thing is Arctic Monkeys. Since their debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not and their pivotal 2013 record AM, Arctic Monkeys have successfully remained relevant and relatable with their signature classic rock sound and lyrical range of emotion. With hit tracks such as “Do I Wanna Know“ and “505”, they’re capable of everything from heartbreak ballads to head-banging treasures. For their North American Tour 2023, the alternative rock band proved that some things are truly timeless.
The iconic lead singer Alex Turner enigmatically captivated the crowd at Salt Lake City’s Delta Center with his Elvis-esque mannerisms and smooth voice. He’s edgy-yet-classy, theatrical in his demeanor and magnetic in his stage presence. Orchestrating a masterful performance, Turner and his bandmates produced a cohesively symphonic experience. Crowd-pleasing with a stellar setlist including “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High”, “Knee Socks” and “Fluorescent Adolescent”, Arctic Monkeys delivered a natural and clean performance from beginning to end.
The fully-seated stadium glimmered as a giant disco ball descended to close out the evening. The show provided everything I’d hoped for and more from the Monkeys – inducing an emotional surge of memories and past lovers, displaying a retro production of alt rock and bringing forth the charming presence of Alex Turner in his fullest.
