The Sunset: A New 8,000-Capacity Outdoor Music Venue Set To Open In Colorado Springs
Move over Red Butte Garden and Red Rocks Amphitheatre, you’re about to meet your match. A new outdoor amphitheater called The Sunset is currently in the works in Colorado Springs, CO.
Set to offer scenic views of the sun setting over Colorado’s picturesque Pikes Peak behind the stage, the new venue will host 8,000 people, less than a 2,000-capacity difference than Morrison, CO’s iconic natural red rock amphitheater while offering 5,000 more seats than SLC’s beloved independent floral-themed outdoor venue. While it may seem that the new venue may be of direct competition to the West’s regularly played outdoor venues, the developer has stated he only hopes to enhance the mountain music culture that Utah and Colorado boast so highly.
“I’m not building this to be competitive with Red Rocks, or to be competitive with anybody. I’m building it to be complementary to the music culture and to the arts culture…I want it to be something the community enjoys. And [I’m] in no way trying to be competitive with Denver. Colorado Springs doesn’t have anything quite like this,” said JW Roth, Founder and Chairman of the company behind The Sunset, Notes Live.
The Sunset will cost approximately $40 million and is planned for the Polaris Pointe development near the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The new open-air venue will host large touring acts and feature amenities including 60 VIP luxury firepit suites, four and five star restaurants, a chophouse with a rooftop bar “carrying over 150 of the rarest bourbons in the world,” and more. Additionally, the new venue will join Notes Live’s other recently opened Colorado Springs music venue, Boot Barn Hall, which opened in February 2019, in the company’s efforts dedicated to serving “entertainment deserts” where there are growing populations but no high-quality venues.
“These are some of the fastest-growing cities in America, but the live entertainment options haven’t caught up to the population. Notes Live venues will cater to these upscale demographics looking for a place where the overall experience is as good as the music itself,” said Roth.
The Sunset is scheduled to open in fall of 2023 with a full schedule of music performances in 2024. For more information, visit the Notes Live website.
