Sorry, The Chainsmokers Are Back

Sorry, The Chainsmokers are back.

It’s been over two years since we heard new music from the international electronic duo or seen any social media posts since taking a hiatus in February 2020. Today, the duo – fronted by Alexander “Alex” Pall and Andrew “Drew” Taggart – has thrown themselves back into the public light and released a hilarious parody video announcing their long-awaited return.

Posted on social media, the video doesn’t quite show the duo. Instead, the two are continuing their social media shenanigans by appointing eerily scary lookalikes. Having tricked fans all week with a series of videos on TikTok, today’s video announces their return and pokes fun at their international stardom. Illustrating the difficulties and obstacles that come with it, the doppelgängers are seen combating partying, financial abundance, the pressure of recording music, identity issues, and more. While the video is obviously a comical interpretation of the “day in the life” of the duo, it doesn’t make the reality of juggling the components of international success any less real. Watch the video below.

Earlier this week, the duo posted a series of comeback videos with celebrity lookalikes. One of the doppelgängers included New Girl and American Vandal actor Ryan O’Flanagan, who even appeared onstage at a recent performance in Las Vegas. While some fans were tricked and didn’t notice, others posted conspiracy videos highlighting the duo’s appearance changes, even accusing them of plastic surgery. See the videos below.

Included in the humorous announcement videos, The Chainsmokers disclosed that their fourth album, TCS4 is currently in the works after announcing the release date for a new single, “High.” Set to drop today, “High” will mark the first new music release from the duo since their 2019 album, World War Joy. An official release date for TCS4 has not yet been announced.

Having earned the third spot as one of the most popular groups of the decade according to a study published by 24/7 Tempo and to The Chicago Tribune, The Chainsmokers’ forthcoming album is one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The duo will set off on a European tour in April and May and is slated to headline EDC México alongside DJ Snake, Alesso, Carl Cox, REZZ, Grimes and more later this year.
