St. Paul & The Broken Bones Share Picasso-Inspired New Single, “Minotaur” [Listen/Watch]

Building up excitement for their forthcoming album, The Alien Coast, St. Paul & The Broken Bones have shared the new single “Minotaur.”

Following 2021’s The Alien Coast singles “3000 AD Mass,” “The Last Dance,” and “Love Letter From A Red Roof Inn,” “Minotaur” shapes up to be one of the octet’s most reflective pieces of music yet, touching on themes of breaking down your self-identity and vulnerability in being alone.

Guitarist Browan Lollar kicks off the new track with a bright guitar loop as lead vocalist and frontman Paul Janeway delivers far-away, dream-like poetic vocals on identity and trauma, inspired by Pablo Picasso’s series of minotaur paintings from the 1930s.

“‘Minotaur’ is about fearing something within you, and the loneliness that comes from that,” Janeway said in a statement. “Especially if you grew up in an abusive situation, there can be this feeling of having something in you that you don’t want to encounter or even recognize.”

St. Paul & The Broken Bones have also released an accompanying in-studio performance video of the new track. Shot at their hometown Ol Elegante Studio in Birmingham, AL, the ensemble is seen adding a breath of life to the new track in the live performance setting.
