Mac Miller’s ‘Faces’ Mixtape Coming To Streaming Services, New Music Video For “Colors and Shapes” [Watch]

Mac Miller’s acclaimed 2014 mixtape Faces is coming to streaming services next month and will receive a special vinyl printing.

Originally released for free on Mother’s Day 2014, Faces will be available to stream on October 15th. The mixtapes features guest contributions from Earl Sweatshirt, Sir Michael Rocks (Cool Kids), Vince Staples, and more.

In anticipation for the release, Mac Miller’s estate has released a new music video for the Thundercat collaboration, “Colors and Shapes.” Directed by Sam Mason, the animated music video shows Miller’s dog as he adventures through his dreams in surreal worlds, encountering various illusioned dimensions and metaphorical characters. Watch the music video below.

In a statement regarding the music video via Pitchfork, Mason remarks, “The track felt very visual to me—like it had its own world. This atmospheric nighttime place that was sometimes dangerous, sometimes comforting, then I saw a picture of [Mac Miller’s dog] Ralph and a story emerged. To build it out I asked Malcolm’s family to send me bits and pieces from his childhood, scenes from the town where he grew up, objects, toys from his room—little pieces of his life that I extrapolated outwards and used to inspire the story. In the abstract, it’s meant to be a video about childhood—growing up as an artist and the highs and lows of that experience. It’s sort of a look at the emotional and difficult and perilous but noble path of an artist.”
