Kid Cudi Is Directing & Starring In New Netflix Film, ‘Teddy’
Aside from continuously pushing out new music, Kid Cudi has announced he’s working on his directorial debut for a new Netflix film, Teddy.
While directing the film alongside co-producer Jay-Z, Cudi will also star in the new comedy film. In his announcement, Cudi explained the film reflects real-life struggles and highs inspired by the rapper’s own personal experiences.
“This is a story I started writing in 2013 because I always wanted to write my own movie, so I said fuck it and started doing it. The road has been long, from it being a tv show for years to finally being a film. So it means so fuckin much to finally be able to bring it to the screen next year, and I can’t wait for u all to meet Teddy, his friends, his family and take a walk in his world for a bit. If I could sum up what the movie is about in one sentence, I’d say this: It’s as if I took the song “Pursuit of Happiness” and wrote a movie about it. I added a lot of my own personal struggles and experiences in it, so this film is very close to my heart. I know, that deep down, this movie will help people in the same ways my music has. I’m continuing my mission. Now this is a comedy, but it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t sprinkle some real shit in there. Its trippy, it’s fun, it’s sad, it’s life.”
Cudi’s directorial film announcement comes following his decision to leave social media. He recently announced his decision via Twitter to turn off all comments on Instagram and may leave the platform all together. He mentioned that the decision is to keep his mind in a healthy and positive light, as social media leaves him depressed. Kudos to Cudi.
Cudi will appear on Nigo’s first album in 22 years, I Know NIGO, set to arrive this Friday, March 25th. His collaborative single, “Want It Bad” is currently out on all streaming platforms ahead of this Friday’s full 11-track album release. Listen to “Want It Bad” below.
