The Recording Academy Rescinds Kanye West’s Grammy Performance

There’s never a shortage of Kanye West news to report about, and today isn’t an exception. The rapper has been barred from performing at the 2022 Grammys after the Recording Academy rescinded its offer for West’s performance due to his “concerning online behavior.”

The Recording Academy’s decision to rescind its offer doesn’t come as a surprise. West was recently suspended from Instagram for violating the platform’s policies on hate speech, bullying, and harassment on posts targeting his ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her current boyfriend Pete Davidson, The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah, and more. And if you missed it, West also released a video for his song “Eazy” which featured an effigy of Davidson. Real classy.

Knocking West out of the running, Billie Eilish, BTS, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow, Olivia Rodrigo, and Brandi Carlile are set to perform at this year’s ceremony. While West will not perform at the Grammys, he still holds five nominations for this year’s award ceremony, including Album of the Year, Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album. Check out this year’s full 2022 Grammy nominations here.

Tune in to this year’s 64th annual Grammy Awards Ceremony on Sunday, April 3rd from 6-9 p.m. MT on CBS and Paramount+. Trevor Noah will return as this year’s host. Hopefully West can keep his cool onstage should he win any of his nominations.
