flipturn Releases New Single & Music Video, “Playground” [Watch/Listen]

Indie frontrunners flipturn have released the new single “Playground,” marking the band’s first release since 2020.

As a first taste of the band’s upcoming debut album, “Playground” ushers in an era of sonic maturity. The four-minute track explores lyrical themes of accepting the sobering thoughts of ending your innocence as you lead in more adult responsibilities. The band – comprised of Dillon Basse (vocals, rhythm guitar), Tristan Duncan (lead guitar), Madeline Jarman (bass), Mitch Fountain (synth), and Devon VonBalson (drums) – tops off the second half of the song with a sonic jam exploration, highlighted by melodic guitar riffs and backing synths. The accompanying music video shows the band’s playful relationship with each other, making even the daunting task of doing laundry an enjoyment experience with friends. Watch the official music video and stream “Playground” below.

“Everybody has at least once felt the yearning for childhood and the lack of responsibilities and obligations associated with it. There was beauty and invincibility to everything you did. The sun kissed your skin a little softer while the days ticked on forever,” Duncan said.

He continues, “Growing up has a way of taking all that away. You learn through trial and error while unknowingly laying the bricks below you. New things feel a little less shiny and the weight of your world pushes a little harder down on you. At some point, you realize you forget what it felt like to be a kid. That’s when it becomes easy to romanticize it, but a lot harder to shrug away the sobering thoughts of your adult life.”

flipturn is currently in the middle of a North American run with Wilderado and will make their way to Salt Lake City, UT for a sold-out show at Soundwell on March 29th. Later this spring and summer, the band will join forces with Mt. Joy and Rainbow Kitten Surprise for a series of tour dates in-between their festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees, Hangout, Sunfest, Treefort, and more.
