5th Annual Shred Fest To Bring Music, Beer & Snow Shredding To Salt Lake City

What could be better than beer, music, and a real snow rail jam with some of the best up-and-coming skiiers and snowboarders? Shred Fest is here to make it all happen.

Slated for Friday, November 5th and Saturday, November 6th in Liberty Park, the fifth annual winter kickoff event will bring the Salt Lake City and greater Utah communities together to celebrate the beginning of the winter season. What originally started as a way to get the ski and snowboard communities hyped for a new season in Missoula, MT back in 2011 has now grown into its “ski” boots and has made its mark to being an annual tradition in the Utah community.

Salt Lake City saw its first Shred Fest back in 2016 for the one-day event, but this year’s gathering will be the biggest yet. Estimated to bring an average of 8,000 people over the course of the weekend, ski, snowboard, and music fanatics will experience two days of everything winter wonderland.

“We’re really excited to bring our Utah community back together on large scale. We hope to open the eyes of other Utah residents who may not make the connection between ski and snowboarding while living so close to world-class mountains and slopes and how accessible and fun it can be,” Shred Fest Marketing Director Chase Burch said.

Throughout Friday and Saturday, attendees will be able to sip and sample on local beer and eateries while touring through the vendor village full of ski and snowboard activations, giveaways, a lumberjack demonstration, and more. Ensuring that the diverse shred community is represented through music, bluegrass pioneers The Lil Smokies and local artist Leah Woods will provide the headlining tunes on Friday, while funky-electro hip-hop artist NoMBe and local jamgrass group Pixie and The Partygrass Boys will keep it grooving throughout all of Saturday.

“The music this year is really diverse to represent the different groups that make up the ski and snowboard communities. We truly can’t wait to bring the community back together to celebrate the changing of the seasons with two days this year,” Burch said.

To showcase the talent among the ski and snowboard communities of Utah, Shred Fest will be hosting a “Real Snow Rail Jam.” Bringing in 20 tons of real snow, Liberty Park will be transformed into a mini mountain terrain park where a friendly competition between a total of 50 skiers and snowboarders will go head-to-head to win a share of $5,000. Local pros and surprise professional shredders will judge the competition for both the men and women’s competition categories.
