SLC’s Audioscribe Featured On Space Yacht’s Inaugural Drum & Bass Compilation, ‘Critical Mass Vol. 1’ [Listen/Stream]
After dropping a slew of tech-house and bass compilations throughout 2021, LA-based party brand, record label, and collective Space Yacht has dropped its first drum & bass compilation, Critical Mass Vol. 1.
In collaboration with mysterious, masked producer REAPER, the collection features 14 tracks highlighting a spectrum of sounds representing the new appetite for drum and bass in North America. Representing a statement piece for all the artists involved, Critical Mass Vol. 1 pushes a wave of hard-hitting, unrelenting, and genre-pushing tracks.
“The Critical Mass compilation is a glimpse into drum and bass’s momentous energy. One of my favorite parts about this diverse collection of music is that it can be enjoyed all the way from the warehouse to the stadium,” REAPER said.
As the first Critical Mass compilation, Space Yacht wanted to feature the best new D&B producers, which is why all 14 tracks highlight varied sonic spectrums and moods within the genre. Featured among the selected 14 artists includes Salt Lake City-based pioneering producer Audioscribe. As the seventh track on the compilation, “All That” kicks off into an edgy, upbeat groove that fuses the melodic elements of D&B with catchy, looping one-lined vocals. His fusion of organic elements and danceable hooks marks a highlighting track on the new release and further exemplifies Space Yacht’s vision to push the boundaries of the D&B genre.
“Space Yacht has always prided itself on being a label that doesn’t stick to one genre. Our tastes are eclectic and our role in the community is to shine a light on the newcomers in the space,” Space Yacht co-founder Henry Lu said. “For our first Critical Mass compilation, we wanted to not only feature the best new D&B producers, but wanted to collaborate on the curation with one of the most forward -pushing producers out there – REAPER, who has been making serious moves in the scene for the past few years. Both REAPER and the Space Yacht team enlisted demos from a wide array of D&B producers and then came together to select the very best tracks for the compilation. The result is a hard-hitting, truly underground collection of tracks from some of the most forward-thinking producers in the game.”
Listening through the first four tracks, you can hear the diverse collection of sound and energy from each respective artist. Kicking off with REAPER and Slang Dog’s “RELOAD,” rising bass producer Kumarion follows with “Haunting,” while Justin Hawkes – formerly known as Flite – brings in earth-shattering sounds in “IJDK.” Florida-based EDM producer and DJ Slippy, whose signature sound heard in “Could, Couldn’t” concocts a genre-blended track full of dark, sinister, orchestral-influenced undertones.
